Parenting For Dads – A Guide to Having a Baby For Men

What to Expect

When you and your wife or significant other bring a baby into the world, the first thing you should expect, aside from joy and amazement, is not to get much sleep for about a year.

The task of course can be daunting but as like with anything else in life you will roll with the punches and take it day by day.

With that said if you don’t approach this correctly, you will only suffer from more stress. More to the point unnecessary stress which you could avoid. To improve your situation, always try to sleep when the baby sleeps. Even if it’s in the middle of the day. Also, go to sleep early when possible.

Balance of Work

With both Mom and Dad losing sleep, there will be more stress in the household. The best way to diffuse this before it gets out of hand is to offer your wife help whenever possible. You might be exhausted, but so is she, and this could pay large dividends in many other areas of your relationship. Just as importantly you get to spend time with your newborn child.

Discipline

Some people are confused as to when to begin disciplining their child. Don’t even consider it prior to six months. After that, gradually work it in, but softly. After a year, be firm but fair with your disciplinary actions. No means no, but yelling won’t get you anywhere.

Listen to your child and observe their behavior and base your discipline from the perspective of learning and understanding.

Crying Babies – How to Stop a Baby Crying

A baby only has one mode of communication – crying. To them, everything is a new experience which they might or might  not like. At times, for an inexperienced parent, it will be especially tough to work out exactly what your baby is crying about. There may be a number of reasons for your baby to cry and they might  all come about concurrently, so here is a list of things for you to run through.

More often than not when the diaper gets thoroughly soiled, the baby will cry and let you know, so inspecting the diaper is the primary task to do. Most of the time, once you have changed her diapers and cleaned her up, the crying will stop almost instantaneously Certain babies don’t enjoy getting their diaper changed, and can often cry much more. Why does this happen? Whilst experiencing a nappy change, the infant might  feel cold when you take off her diapers so don’t become too concerned and change the diaper quickly. After that cover the baby with a blanket, so that the baby can feel secure once more.

As a baby is feeling hot and stuffy, she is uncomfortable and could begin crying to tell you of it. Make sure  that the clothing she is wearing isn’t too warm for her in relation to the present room or outdoor temperature. A good to gauge with deciding on the clothing for your newborn is one layer more than what you have on. If the little one is too hot or cold, then adjust the clothing or covers to suit the temperature.

Another reason that a baby will cry is due to the fact that she is hungry plus you might find that this could happen more often than not. In the event that your baby hasn’t been fed for a few hours, it’s likely she will willingly receive your offering for the bottle of milk. Try it out and see what she does.

Babies need consistent meal intervals since they develop so rapidly. It is best that you observe their intake and keep their meal periods consistent. Sometimes the action of sucking helps to calm the baby, even if they’re not particularly hungry. Babies are extremely good of realizing when they’ve had sufficient milk, and will not drink anymore. So do not fret too much about over-feeding. The baby will cease crying once she is not thirsty or hungry any more.

After feeding, the majority of babies develop gas. Baby’s do not understand  how to burp when they feel really full, so it is up to you to release it for them. Start by holding your baby over your shoulder. You will want to have her tummy located more or less on your shoulder because this will help facilitate burping. Position a towel on your shoulder as well just in case she vomits.

Make sure the head is well forward, or support the head if you are able to. Rub her back firmly, in a circular motion. This helps to put pressure on the digestive system both stomach and back, and easily results in the essential burping. Don’t pat her back as you cannot actually tell whether you are patting her using a little too much force. Bear in mind that infants are extremely fragile at this age so stick to soft circular stroking instead.

You might even discover that by just going for a stroll with the baby on your shoulder can help. This can work because infants are used to getting that up and down movement whilst in the womb. Additionally, babies are usually more relaxed when cuddled by a parent. Babies like to be carried and cuddled – in spite of some suggestions to the contrary, you can’t hold your baby too often.

You could also try swaddling your newborn if she continues with her crying. What is “swaddling”? It is the art of securely wrapping your baby up in a cloth to help her feel assured till she adjusts to her new environment. There are numerous instructions on the internet that you might discover and learn how to swaddle correctly, just perform a search on Google. Just be sure  not to swaddle your baby too much past a month or so as this may  limit their muscle development. The most vital part is to make sure that her neck and head are not enclosed by the blanket.

If you have gone through the number of methods mentioned and your infant keeps on crying, then she may just be getting grumpy for no reason at all – we’re all entitled to those days. You can have a go at holding your newborn and making quiet wave-type noises with your voice. In the womb, babies hear similar noises so hearing these sounds at this point may just provide them some reassurance and comfort. Certain babies are especially  susceptible to noise, and an average house produces plenty of noise! You can even try a radio tuned off-station, so all you get is “white noise”.

As time goes by, you will discover that you can begin to recognize the difference between your baby’s cries, and thus you most likely don’t need to run through the checklist each time your baby cries. Some other factors outside of this checklist can be happening, such as an illness or a diaper rash. In the event that your baby’s crying persists and you have  attempted all the tips, bring her to a physician to get her examined.

Baby Einstein: My First Book of Numbers

Baby Einstein: My First Book of Numbers

This book is great in most respects — it is large and sturdy, has cute pictures of babies, marbles, and rubber duckies, and brightly colored numbers and illustrations. My one-year-old especially likes the pictures of the babies and I think it will definitely be good for teaching him numbers as he gets a bit older and understands what he is “reading”! My only complaint is that the rhymes don’t scan very well, practically speaking. The rhyming lines have the right number of syllables but I find many of them really stilted for reading out loud, and find myself altering the words to make them read more smoothly. So, a high quality book in most all respects, but the text could have used a bit more work.

Which Newborn Baby Gifts Will You Buy?

If there’s a new baby in your life, whether you’re a parent or a close friend or relative, you’ll want to get the most appropriate newborn bay gifts.

Here’s what you might consider.

1. Clothes are always a good idea, and you’ll find that the baby will get a lot of wear out of nice clothes, as well as practical everyday clothes. You might want to buy a size or two bigger, so that they will last, or so that they will grow into them. It’s likely that the baby will have lots of newborn clothes, and will soon outgrow them.

2. Maybe you’ll choose something the baby will grow with and find useful. Perhaps a book set, or cloth books, something else that will help them develop and learn as they grow.

3. Maybe you’ll choose some organic skincare products that will ensure that their skin stays smooth and well nourished. If you know the value of good skincare, then why not make sure the baby gets a good start too?

4. Baby toys are always welcome, and will offer something for the baby to play with. Perhaps you’ll choose something that will encourage them to grip, or to touch, or to hold, or that makes a noise

5. Maybe you’ll choose a rattle, or something that will help them develop the all important hand and eye coordination. A traditional baby rattle might not seem like much in this hi tech world, but will be perfect for a growing baby.

6. A teddy bear will be well loved, and could be the baby’s perfect companion that goes everywhere with them. Perhaps you can remember how much you and your children loved your teddy bears

7. You might want something a bit different than a toy or clothes. Why not consider a picture frame, jewellery, a silver cutlery set, or other keepsakes?

8. You might also have to get something for an older child too, so that they don’t feel left out. Maybe books, or something they’ve expressed an interest in will help them to feel more involved at this difficult time.

9. It’s important that you don’t forget mum. She’s bound to appreciate a bit of help around the house, or a nice relaxing bath, as much as a picture frame.

10. Whilst you’re bound to be keen to show your appreciation of the baby, you won’t want to shower the baby with very expensive inappropriate gifts. It will much more suitable to get a little token gift that the baby will be able to keep forever, rather that something that they’ll never use. Parents won’t think anything less of you, if you don’t spend a fortune!

Now you have some ideas as to what you can get, why not see which newborn baby gifts you’ll get for your new arrival.
